The Strange Power: Kaitlyn (Kait) is the town weirdo. She's considered the town witch and everyone keeps away from her. Kait lives with her father and her mother had passed away. She doesn't intentionally practice witchcraft, it's just a gift she has. Kait has random urges to draw and is saved when Joyce comes to her school with an offer. Kait has a chance to move to Mr.Zates Institute in the Bay Area with a full scholarship to college. How can she say no? Once there she meets Rob a hot healer, Gabriel a rude boy that refuses to reveal his power, Anna who talks to animals, and Lewis a psychokinesis with a good humor. Joyce and Marisol take care of them in the house and help run the test on their powers. Kait finally fits in and loves it! Although she see's right through Mr.Zates speech when he comes to the house. Marisol also seems to want Kait and the rest of them out of the house, but why? Things only get weirder as more test are ran. Especially with the crystals are put on their heads when they are tested. Also Marisol's sudden collapse in the house do to lack of medicine. Kait feels something isn't right when she and Gabriel are invited to the Mr.Zates house and learn about the crystal. What can be worse then running from an extremely powerful man? Maybe being mentally connected to all her friends and Gabriel.
The Possessed: Kaitlyn and her friend are on the run. They learned what Mr.Zates really waned and they have no choice but to run. They gather all the money they can get and leave. Kait feels their best hope for help is in Oakland with Marisol. On their way there Kait learns Gabriel's secret which causes them to become closer. Marisol's brother Tony gives them the family car in exchange for the death of Mr.Zates. They need to get out California as soon as possible and Anna feels her families home is the safest place. On their way the mysterious green fog and cold air that seems to bring strange figures becomes worse. They possessed Lewis and are contently invading Kait's dreams. Are they sending a message? When the car goes off the road do to an attack from a strange dark power, Lydia conveniently is there to give them a ride to Anna's home. Can she be trusted? The adventure continues when they go find the house and the people who are invading Kait's dreams.
The Passion: They finally found the weapon to destroy Mr.Zates! Gabriel is now on the opposite side and it seems the only way to stop Zates is by going back to the house. Joyce isn't exactly happy to see Kait and neither is here new room mate Lydia. Her new housemates Renny, Mac, Bri, and Frost. Her friends come to save her but they could be in more dancer then she was. Mr.Zates has the group rob money and grants from different places. When the time comes to attack the large crystal, can Kait do it? She has everything ready but Mr.Zates has came prepared also.
These books are so good! It may be because I live in the Bay Area but I felt so attached to the characters! They are so realistic and the entire time I'm rooting for Kait and Gabriel to be together. L.J. built the story up in such a captivating way it was hard to stop reading! I honestly could not put this book down. This magical world is unique and has a balance of power feeling to it. The idea of a female hero is always a good thing.
